Sources: Williams leaves Aggies for Maryland job
Buzz Williams has been hired as the new men’s basketball coach at Maryland, sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel, ending his six-year stint at Texas A&M.
Williams and Maryland finalized a six-year deal Tuesday, sources told Thamel.
The Terrapins had been seeking a new head coach after Kevin Willard left Maryland on Sunday to become the new head coach at Villanova.
Maryland now will turn to Williams, who coached the Aggies to four consecutive winning seasons and three straight trips to the NCAA tournament.
Williams owns a career record of 372-228 over 18 seasons at Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Marquette and New Orleans.
