Stephen Curry Just Launched No-Added-Sugar Electrolyte Drinks—and I Got to Try Them First

Key Takeaways

  • Steph Curry’s new PLEZi Hydration beverage line features no-added-sugar sports drinks.
  • The drinks come in three fruity flavors.
  • My favorite, Tropical Punch, has a nostalgic feel.

Today, PLEZi Nutrition launched their newest line, PLEZi Hydration, which is a collection of hydrating sports drinks that are packed with electrolytes without any added sugar. Golden State Warriors basketball star Stephen Curry collaborated with the brand to put the new launch together.

The point guard is taking his nickname “Chef Curry” to a whole new level by teaming up with the brand, co-founded by former First Lady Michelle Obama. The four-time NBA champion calls this new product “a game-changing hydration beverage.”

“We’ve created something with smart ingredients and unbeatable flavor, so people can fuel their bodies the right way,” Curry says in a release. “No nonsense, no shortcuts—because the next generation deserves better.”

The PLEZi Hydration drinks include electrolytes like potassium and sodium to help support your muscles and keep you hydrated through a workout. There’s also no added sugar (only natural sugar from fruit juice) and 100% of your recommended daily value of vitamin C in each drink.

The new sports drinks come in three flavors: Tropical Punch, Orange Mango Twist and Lemon Lime. And lucky for us, I was able to try them all before the launch so you know exactly what to buy. Here’s how they taste.

How Do the PLEZi Hydration Drinks Taste?

First up, the Tropical Punch flavor. Honestly, this was the most shocking flavor of the bunch—in a good way. If you’re looking for a no-sugar fruit punch dupe, this drink has an uncanny resemblance to your favorite fruit punch. Its nostalgic taste had me checking the label again to make sure there was really no added sugar in this sip.

Another highlight was the Orange Mango Twist flavor. It felt fresh and citrusy, and this drink would be the one that I personally would choose out of the three to keep on standby during exercise. It was giving summer in a bottle.

But my least favorite of the three was Lemon Lime. It was definitely drinkable, but the flavor itself did not taste like lemon or lime, frankly. I was waiting for that citric acid kick, and it never came. I definitely wouldn’t have been able to guess the flavor in a blind taste test.

Overall, I’m a fan of the new line, and for $2.29 a bottle, it’s worth the try in my opinion. They’re available now on Amazon nationwide or at select Walmart locations in California.
