It wasn’t so long ago that Sydney Sweeney and co-star Glen Powell were on their 2023 press tour for Anyone But You, their chemistry obvious. But, palpable though the sparks were, the two always denied any offscreen romance—after all, Sweeney was engaged to Jonathan Davino.

Flash forward to the present day: Sweeney and Davino have apparently called off their planned May wedding, and, though a breakup hasn’t been confirmed, Sweeney has been posting photos to Instagram without her engagement ring. (Sweeney and Davino were first linked in 2018, and they’ve been engaged for three years.)

Per People, Sweeney and Powell were spotted together at Dallas restaurant Joe Leo Fine Tex Mex as split rumors swirl (and, let’s not get ahead of ourselves—Sweeney and Powell hanging out and Sweeney and Davino possibly splitting don’t have to be inextricably linked). Apparently Sweeney and Powell were at the restaurant in Powell’s native Lone Star State for Powell’s sister Leslie’s rehearsal dinner ahead of her wedding. (Leslie also worked on Anyone But You.)

Sweeney and Powell have repeatedly clarified that they’re just good friends, but their obvious chemistry makes it easy to wonder about there possibly being an attraction beyond the platonic. Sweeney has reportedly been living apart from Davino as of late, and she recently deleted a photo of herself and Davino kissing from her Instagram, a snap that was originally posted in January.

Sweeney has expressed a desire to keep her romantic life out of the public eye, but has described her connection with Davino as “a steady relationship” in a December 2023 interview with Glamour U.K., calling Davino her “best friend.” A source speaking to People recently told the outlet that, between Sweeney and Davino, “things have been rocky” between them “for a long time.”

As for Sweeney and Powell, the two admitted to playing up their chemistry when promoting Anyone But You, with Powell telling The New York Times in April 2024, “The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry.”

He added, “Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry. That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit—and it worked wonderfully.”

When Sweeney hosted Saturday Night Live in March 2024, she even used part of her monologue to address the “affair” rumors. “When all that stuff happened, you know, publicly, it felt disorienting and unfair,” Powell told Men’s Health last year. “But what I’m realizing is that’s just a part of this gig now.”

As for Sweeney and Powell’s apparent Dallas meetup, a source told Us Weekly that “There is nothing going on romantically between Glen and Sydney. They are just friends. Sydney is close with the entire family.”

The source added, “Sydney brought one of her girlfriends to the wedding as a guest and she RSVP’d months ago.”
