Alongside allopathic medicines, Ayurveda is also regarded as highly effective in controlling cholesterol. Speaking to Local18, Dr Makarand Kumar Mishra, BAMS, Government Ayurvedic College Begusarai, Bihar, explained that high cholesterol is a direct result of an unhealthy lifestyle. “Nowadays, people consume excessive amounts of fried and unhealthy foods, leading to a rise in cholesterol levels,” he said.

He further stated that high cholesterol increases the risk of heart attacks. However, there are several effective home remedies to control cholesterol and maintain a healthy balance.

Home Remedies For Cholesterol Control

Fenugreek: Dr Makarand highlighted that fenugreek is beneficial in reducing cholesterol, as it contains essential nutrients such as potassium, iron, zinc, and calcium. To consume it, soak fenugreek seeds in water overnight and drink the water in the morning. Fenugreek greens also aid in lowering cholesterol.

Coriander Seeds: Coriander seeds possess hypoglycaemic properties, which help reduce high cholesterol. Apart from using coriander in food, one can also drink tea made from coriander seeds for added benefits.

Bottle Gourd: Dr Makarand mentioned that consuming bottle gourd is effective in controlling cholesterol due to its medicinal properties, which support heart health. To enhance the taste, black salt can be added.

Apple Cider Vinegar: According to Dr Makarand, apple cider vinegar helps maintain cholesterol balance. For best results, mix two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it.

Garlic: Lastly, he emphasised that garlic has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help lower cholesterol. Eating 1-2 raw garlic cloves daily on an empty stomach supports heart health and improves blood circulation.
