Best gift ideas for mum
£15 and under
For those with a limited budget, or simply wanting to offer a token gesture, we’ve compiled some excellent ideas costing under £15. Should your mum, or indeed, mother-in-law, be into self-care and skincare, why not opt for a luxury hand soap, or some lovely candles to light and unwind with in the bath. Of course, an essential oil diffuser also makes a good present and we’ve compiled some of the best in a round up aptly titled: the best essential oil diffusers. Alternatively, treat her to the experience of a delicious breakfast in bed, with tea served up in an elegant china cup and saucer.
Why not gift her a luxurious soap bar for a slice of timeless self care. The gently scented soap is enriched with Himalayan pink salt and coconut oil, and is a nourishing and moisturising skincare hybrid, for slathering over the entire body.
Either of these patterned napkin pairs would add understated elegance to any dinner table or cosy breakfast-in-bed arrangement. Alternatively, the lucky recipient have them sit pretty alongside brightly coloured wine glasses during Christmas parties.
£30 and under
There are a plethora of great gifts available for £30 or under, from pretty storage baskets to enamel baking trays. For a thoughtful, personalised gift, why not opt for photo frame, populated with a family photo. A box of chocolates can be cliché, but Boissier’s beautiful tinned chocolate petals are a memorable spin on a classic gift, and the sweet tin can be reused afterwards. Cookbooks and coffee table tomes are another lovely idea that won’t break the bank, but can be tailored to mum’s interests.
£50 and under
For under £50, you can go a little more lavish and luxe with your gifts. Why not brighten her kitchen with a classic Le Creuset butter dish in egg yolk yellow? Or, a delightful and stylish set of little cheese knives? They are ideal to bring out with nibbles for when friends or family are round. Alternatively, you could look to one of our favourite online furniture stores for a stylish vase or ceramic jug to go alongside some fresh flowers.
£75 and under
For £75 there is a wide range of beautifully decorated, elevated homeware to buy. We’ve found a few particularly lovely ceramic pieces at this price point, from Anut Cairo, Soho Home and Anthropologie. Toast‘s current offering includes hand-stitched cushion covers in warm, earthy tones. Another personal idea would be to put a photo book together, filling it with memories to be cherished for years to come.
£100 and under
If you’re splashing out on your gift this Mother’s Day or gifting on any other day, we have lots of lovely ideas for you to pinch! Consider where your recipient is in their life? Perhaps they’re a new mum with cause to celebrate? A lovely Prosecco or Champagne and caviar set will fit the bill nicely. If they love to host and have the whole family round, perhaps a pretty set of plates, bowls or serving platters?
As gift cards go, this is a thoughtful touch suiting creative mums who enjoy sewing. Particularly if you’re a little unsure which present to pick, what’s not to love about choosing their own kit for making a personalised piece of embroidery?
Over £100
Best hamper gift ideas for mum
There’s nothing quite like opening up a fine hamper, packed full of delights, on Mother’s Day. There are plenty of splendid hampers available at a range of price points (our favourite is the Taste of Fortnum’s hamper from Fortnum and Mason). All include a trove of delights to feast on – or to be pampered with, in case of The White Company.
Boasting a selection of cheeses in different flavours to spoil her with for a veritable feast, this hamper from Panzer’s also includes a vast array of delicious sweet and savoury snacks such as plum chutney, figs, crisp bread and grapes. All that’s left to do is open the included bottle of Beaujolais Villages and raise a glass to your mum.
Best subscription gift ideas for mum
Subscriptions don’t just have to be *things* – they can be experiences, too. Presenting a subscription, or subscription box, is one of our favourite things to gift, as it means you can brighten your recipient’s day on a weekly, monthly or yearly basis. It’s a thoughtful gift that keeps on giving which comes in many forms, from flowers to cinema tickets to gallery memberships. Oh, and they work well as last minute Mother’s Day gifts, Christmas presents and birthday gestures.
A Persephone Books subscription is the perfect gift to buy for a keen reader. It’s extra special because the subscription, which sends a book a month, champions women’s literature. You can choose a surprise book or hand pick what your giftee will receive each month. If you’re looking for a unique Christmas present idea, a MUBI subscription also makes a great gift. It’s an online film subscription service – think Netflix but for movie buffs. Every day, you can watch between 600-1000 films, chosen from the best cult, indie and award-winning picks.
Flowers
Elevate the traditional gift of blooms with a flower subscription. Bloom and Wild‘s subscriptions start at £20 per box and can be organised to be delivered every 7, 14 or 28 days. However, you can also get a single, fresh bouquet of beautiful flowers delivered to your mum’s doorstep with no future commitment! Alternatively, we love the dried bouquet ‘The Hadley’ as a stylish floral keepsake containing 47 stems in neutral shades and bursting with plentiful texture variation.
