Truthfully, I was slow to try Westman Atelier—a glow-centric, minimalist beauty brand that launched in 2018. The accolades for its products in the following few years have been deafening and, after succumbing to the hype, I’ve concluded they’re absolutely warranted. The magic lies in its ultra finely milled, light-reflecting particles, which deposit a believable, healthy-looking luminosity that suggests you just received an astonishingly stellar facial. 

Unlike many highlighters in my collection, Westman’s illuminating fluid is notably versatile. Typically, I dispense a pea-sized amount of product onto my fingertips and dot it along the high points of my face—including cheekbones, the bridge of my nose, and beneath my browbones—to create an enlivened, lifted appearance in seconds, which lasts throughout the day sans caking or melting off. When I’m seeking maximum wattage, I smooth a dime-sized amount of product to my entire face prior to foundation; doing so delivers a luminous, dewy base for ensuing makeup. I’ve even patted a tiny amount below my concealer, which creates a believable, bright-eyed look that diffuses my raccoon-like under-eye circles. The formula works equally well on shins, shoulders, and clavicles for a head-to-toe glow. 

In addition to its instant benefits, the luminizing elixir supports dewier, brighter skin over time. Specifically, it’s packed with dermatologist-approved ingredients—including free-radical-fighting antioxidants and complexion-quenching oils, which leave skin smooth and plump. Its presence of Vitamin C, for one, supports a more even-toned glow with continued use. Meanwhile, avocado oil—which is rich in fatty-acids—supplants rough texture with instant suppleness. The highlighter wears with a barely there, breezy feel despite its oil-rich formula, making it a seasonless staple I intend to keep around indefinitely.
