Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will make a big change to THPS 4’s campaign
Following the official announcement of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 in the previous week, new revelations about the upcoming remake have some fans worried.
According to a report by Kotaku, which the outlet says it confirmed with Activision, the campaign of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 will be altered significantly in the remake compared to the original. In the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, players could freely roam an open map and seek out whichever challenges they fancied, which inspired the open-world map of its sequel. This was a break from tradition, as previous games featured campaigns in the form of a simple list of challenges, which all had to be completed inside a limited timeframe.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will revert the campaign of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 back into the traditional style. Some players on the THPS subreddit expressed concern about how these changes will affect the nature of the challenges, since the missions in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 were a lot more flexible than in its predecessors to account for the larger levels.
Instead of the strict two-minute time limit present in the first three games of the series, the fourth one contained challenges ranging from a duration of half a minute to ten minutes. Additionally, a subset of completed missions made permanent changes to the map, which is another aspect that will be difficult to recreate if the free-roam campaign has been canned.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on July 11, 2025.
