– “Half of Europe” is chasing Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García, Diario AS reports. Garcia, 23, has been one of LaLiga’s standout keepers this season, with 15th-placed Espanyol conceding fewer goals than several teams above them in the table. LaLiga‘s three biggest clubs — Atlético Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid — are also after García, but they’ll face competition from the reigning champions of the Bundesliga and Ligue 1, Bayer Leverkusen and Paris Saint-Germain.

– AC Milan could offload winger Rafael Leão in the summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. It is reported that failure to qualify for the Champions League could force the Rossoneri‘s hierarchy to move on several key players, with uncertainty also surrounding the futures of goalkeeper Mike Maignan and left-back Theo Hernández. Leão, 25, has contributed to 13 goals in 28 Serie A games so far this season, and he has previously been linked with Barcelona.

– Liverpool are set to compete with Arsenal for the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, the Daily Mirror reports. The Reds are considering their attacking options this summer in case star forward Mohamed Salah does not sign a new contract and leaves as a free agent. Ekitike, 22, has scored 19 goals and provided eight assists from 38 games this season, and Frankfurt would reportedly want a £60m fee for him. The Mirror adds that Manchester United, Newcastle United and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation.

– Newcastle United have joined a host of Premier League clubs and top European sides chasing Lille striker Jonathan David, The i Paper reports. David, 25, has scored 23 goals in 38 club appearances this season, including nine in the Champions League. The Canada international is set to leave Lille this summer when his contract runs out. According to The i, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have all made contact with David’s representatives, while Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Internazionale and Juventus are also keen.

– Trent Alexander-Arnold is a “big signing, with question marks” for Real Madrid, according to Diario AS. The arrival of the England international on a free transfer this summer would mean uncertainty as to who would be first-choice right-back next season, when Dani Carvajal recovers from injury. AS describes Alexander-Arnold as “brilliant in attack, but suffering in defence” and says his participation with Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup would depend on Liverpool agreeing to rescind his contract early.

ESPN’s Alex Kirkland looks at why so many top clubs are taking an interest in Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García:

First things first: Joan García has absolutely been one of LaLiga’s best goalkeepers this season, starring for a struggling Espanyol. His eye-catching display in their last game before the international break — making two stunning penalty saves in a 2-1 defeat at Mallorca — was just the latest of many. García has made a division-high 96 saves in 2024-25, ranking 6th in LaLiga for his percentage of shots saved.

A look at more advanced statistics demonstrates even more clearly just how important García has been to Espanyol. The metric Post-Shot Expected Goals minus Goals Allowed — or ‘PSxG – GA’ for short — measures the difference between how many goals a keeper would be expected to concede, and how many goals they have, in fact, conceded. García’s figure there is +4.4, which is again, the best in LaLiga.

In other words, García is outperforming expectations more than any other keeper in Spain’s top flight. If Espanyol stay up — they’re just a point above the relegation zone — he’ll have been a key reason why. And of course, aged 23 and with an accessible release clause in his contract — thought to be around €25 million, which reportedly drops to €15 million in the event of relegation — that’s attracting interest from a lot of top clubs.

Last summer it was Arsenal who came closest to signing the Spain youth international, but they were unable to agree a fee with Espanyol late in the window. They would certainly face more competition were they to reignite that interest this summer.

In Spain, there are still questions about Barcelona’s long-term plans for their No. 1 keeper — Marc-André ter Stegen, currently injured, is 32, while Wojciech Szczęsny is on a short-term deal — and Atlético Madrid will need a succession plan for Jan Oblak, also 32, sooner or later.

But as always, the lure of the Premier League might prove hard to resist, and García has the kind of solid, all-round game — comfortable both in the air and with his feet — that should see him thrive in English football.
