The summers are here, and temperatures are expected to rise in the coming weeks. This season poses significant health challenges, particularly with an increase in stomach-related issues. Many people experience vomiting, diarrhoea, and dysentery during this time. Other common ailments also arise in summer. The question is, why do stomach problems increase in summer when people seem fine in winter even after eating a lot? Let’s seek an answer from a doctor.

Dr Sonia Rawat, Director of the Preventive Health and Wellness Department at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, explained to News18 that excessive heat, dehydration, and poor eating habits lead to stomach-related issues.

Drink 8-10 Glasses Of Water Daily

During summer, the body loses more water through sweat, which can cause dehydration. Dehydration can result in stomach cramps, constipation, and other stomach problems. The body requires more water in summer to function properly, so it is advised to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily.

Avoid Junk Food

According to Dr Rawat, spicy food in summer negatively impacts stomach health. Consuming junk and fast foods can lead to indigestion, gas, and acidity. To maintain a healthy stomach during this season, one should opt for an easily digestible diet. Porridge, salad, and soup are excellent choices as they aid digestion and promote stomach health.

Maintain Food Hygiene

Additionally, bacteria and viruses proliferate rapidly in summer, especially through water and food, leading to stomach infections. This can cause stomach pain, diarrhoea, and vomiting. Therefore, maintaining food hygiene is crucial.

Eat Home – Cooked Meals

Health experts recommend avoiding outside food to keep the stomach healthy during summer. The digestive system may weaken in the heat, making it difficult to digest food properly. Consuming light food helps keep the digestive system active and prevents stomach issues.

Engage In Yoga And Meditation

Moreover, mental pressure and stress during summer can also exacerbate stomach problems. Mental health significantly affects the body, and increased stress can impact digestion. Engaging in yoga, meditation, and light exercise can help reduce stress and improve digestion.
