Why Rosamund Pike Was “So Mortified” During ‘James Bond’ Sex Scene with Pierce Brosnan
Before intimacy coordinators were the norm on movie and TV show sets, filming sex scenes could come with their share of awkward situations–just ask Kristin Davis and Ellen Pompeo. Now, Rosamund Pike is the latest star to open about a sex scene gone wrong, specifically sharing the hilarious backstory behind an intimate moment with Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day.
The then 23-year-old actress played one of James Bond’s love interests, Miranda Frost, in the 2002 film, marking one of her first big roles. Despite the age gap between her and Brosnan, who was 49 at the time, Pike said that the actor “couldn’t have been more supportive or kind” while making an appearance on the Tuesday, April 1 episode of David Tennant Does a Podcast With …,
However, they hit a snag while filming a sex scene as Pike revealed how she “discovered things like nipple covers and all the taping.” She recalled, “We have this clinch and then we separate. I look at this body tape and the nipple covers and they’re covered in hair. And I think, ‘Oh my God, I’m waxing Pierce’s chest!’”

Thinking she was “pulling off hair with every embrace,” the Gone Girl actress revealed she felt “so mortified.” However, her moment of embarrassment was short-lived and gave way to relief when she realized the hair was coming from the “fake fur” rugs they were laying in. “I literally thought I was waxing the poor man’s chest,” she told Tennant.

The Saltburn actress has previously spoken out about refusing to strip to her underwear during the casting process for her role in Die Another Day. During a 2018 appearance on Amazon’s Audible Sessions, Pike revealed that during her very first audition, she was asked to take off her dress–but decided to do things her way.
“On the day, I don’t know how I got the resolve and strength of mind, but I just thought if they’re gonna see me in my underwear, they better give me the job,” she recalled, revealing she showed up to the audition in an evening dress that her grandmother had given her.

“There’s no way I’m going to take off a dress in the audition for this tape to be sent around Los Angeles and to be judged on that,” Pike said of her mindset at the time. While the casting director had her change into another more Bond girl-coded look, which she described as “three pieces of string,” she refused to strip down completely.
“I realized I was in a completely different world and way out of my depth,” she said. “So, I put on this shimmering sheath, or whatever the order of the day was, but I didn’t drop it.”
